The minister said, marriage is “For better, for worse,” but in young bride Grace’s case, things get worse pretty quickly. After her high society wedding, the pretty orphan (Samara Weaving of Fantasia fave MAYHEM) joins her seemingly perfect—and filthy rich—husband Alex (Mark O’Brien) on his family’s opulent estate. The eccentric relatives (brother Adam Brody, father Henry Czerny, mother Andie MacDowell and other assorted unhinged in-laws) join the nuptials for a time-honored tradition…one that turns into a lethal game with the weapons-wielding clan fighting for their survival. For poor Grace, marriage isn’t a word, it’s a (death) sentence!
Are you READY OR NOT for the year’s most entertaining and glorious horror ride? Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (V/H/S, DEVIL’S DUE), READY OR NOT delivers the goods in an amusing, over-the-top and suspenseful fashion. The family that plays together, slays together as the well-heeled but bloodthirsty relatives arm themselves to the teeth for an evening of senseless violence. (Better watch out for deadly dowager Aunt Helene with the battleax!) This wedding night is filled with shotguns, crossbows, cleavers, you name it, and the directorial duo keeps us on the edge of our seats till the game of death ends at dawn. Those who loved YOU’RE NEXT, THE BELKO EXPERIMENT and MAYHEM will flip for this riotously gruesome crowd-pleaser. For newlywed Grace, who doesn’t want to wind up newly dead, this marriage definitely wasn’t made in Heaven. –Tony Timpone
